The Peace and Freedom Party Statewide Stands with Cuba: Let Cuba Live!

The Peace and Freedom Party candidates for statewide office stand in solidarity with Cuba, its people and Revolution. We call for an end to the brutal U.S. blockade of the island, and demand the end of U.S. aggression in the Caribbean. We also call for the closing of the U.S. naval base in Guantánamo and the return of all the territory, illegally occupied by U.S. imperialism.

Cuba has been under U.S. blockade, conditions of economic warfare, since 1960. On January 29, Trump signed an Executive Order declaring Cuba “an unusual and extraordinary threat” to the United States, the most recent in this decades-long effort to overthrow the Cuban Revolution. The Trump administration has used this completely false pretext to intensify the suffering of the Cuban people, with the stated goal of causing a famine.

The increased aggression against Cuba is also an attempt to distract working people in the United States from the unpopular policies of Trump. People across the U.S. are rising up against ICE and taking part in historic protests, demonstrating unity across different sectors of society.

We will not be deceived by any false narrative that Cuba is a “threat.” The Peace and Freedom Party has opposed U.S. imperialism since our Party’s founding in 1967. The only “threat” that Cuba poses is the example of a socialist country that provides universal and free health care, free education through university, no evictions, and social peace. We advocate peace and normal relations with Cuba, Venezuela and all the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean.

We believe in the need for a socialist system, where the wealth of our society, which is created by working people, should be used to meet the needs of the people and planet. The same billionaires who cause mass poverty in California are the ones who support U.S. intervention abroad, the spending of trillions of dollars on the war machine year after year. Our candidates are fighting to take back control of the wealth of California and put it into the hands of the working class. Each of our proposed policies for statewide office are for a California that is run in the interests of working people; they are completely achievable if we take back the wealth that is hoarded by billionaires.

The blockade against Cuba must end now! We do not want our money being spent to starve the Cuban people. We call on all people of conscience, all candidates for public office, and all politicians to demand that Trump end the economic strangulation of Cuba. This has nothing to do with “threats” to the United States – it is about crushing any opposition to U.S. domination of Latin America while further enriching corporate executives by facilitating the plunder of the people and resources of the hemisphere.
